ConnectFest Draws Community to Campus

ConnectFest Draws Community to Campus

Weekly Portraits of Calvary Life

Last Friday’s ConnectFest was a brand new idea for serving our local community.  We are estimating that 700 people were on campus throughout the course of the 10-hour event.  While we definitely enjoyed seeing alumni and friends of Calvary, it was extra wonderful to welcome those who have never set foot on this campus before.  What a fun introduction to our school!

Friendly faces welcomed guests to ConnectFest.

Free Fun

ConnectFest was like a carnival and a community festival all rolled into one FREE day of excitement.  Attendees were given 20 free tickets to play carnival games and win prizes.  There were also more than a dozen rides, inflatables, and other attractions that young and old could do for free.

Vendors and local businesses set up booths to sell their items or promote their services, and they did not have to pay any fees to participate.  Several local churches also used this opportunity for community outreach.

Music, Food, and Fireworks

Josh Freerksen sang on stage.

No festival would be complete without live music, and we had plenty!  Calvary students, Blue Ridge Christian School students, and local artists performed on an outdoor stage.  We also enjoyed spoken word, drama, dance, poetry, and comedy mixed into the performance schedule.  Terry Magelssen, a Christian illusionist, performed a show that was enjoyed by all ages.  Of course, I can’t forget to mention the delicious food that was available to purchase from various food trucks.  To top off a great day, we had a 13-minute fireworks show!

Thank You

Thank you, Lord, for holding back the rain and providing a breeze on a hot day.  Thank you, Admissions Team and ConnectFest committee, for all your hard work in dreaming up, planning, and implementing this BIG IDEA!  Finally, thank you, volunteers, for running games and rides, picking up trash, handing out tickets, giving out prizes, etc.  This event would not have been such a success without YOU!

Weekly Portraits of Calvary Life

As faculty lined the aisle, new students made their way to the front of Liberty Chapel for our annual Convocation on Wednesday.  Dr. Bitner welcomed them and explained the history and purpose of a Convocation.

Arianna Erixson, Student Senate President, gave a charge to the entire student body in regard to being a family and supporting each other.  Dr. An provided special music, and the new students were introduced to the school song for the first time.  Dr. Cone shared a message and gave some humorous answers to frequently asked questions.

Calvary Welcomes Students for New School Year

Calvary Welcomes Students for New School Year

Weekly Portraits of Calvary Life

A large portion of this year’s Registration Day was rainy and dreary here in Kansas City.  However, we did not let that dampen our excitement over welcoming new students to Calvary!

New students checking in with Student Services

A sizable group of men and women went through the check-in process on Thursday, and some of them also moved into the dorm.  Thankfully the afternoon brought clearer skies for transporting student belongings.

Arvest Bank representatives greeted new students.

We are anticipating a terrific school year, and we are certainly thankful for each student whom the Lord has brought to Calvary.

New students learned about their Christian Ministry responsibilities.

Please join us in praying especially for these new students and their families as they adjust to a new normal.

Senior Class Gift Funds Newly-planted Trees

Senior Class Gift Funds Newly-planted Trees

Weekly Portraits of Calvary Life

Back in May, the 2018 Senior Class announced their intention to buy trees for Calvary’s Kansas City campus.  This week the evergreen trees, known as Green Giants, were planted along Kensington Avenue and near the Conference Center.

So far thirteen trees have been planted, but we will be getting at least two more.

Staff from Rosehill Gardens planted the trees.

Earlier this summer, several old trees were torn out to make way for these new trees.  When the project is completed, there will be a monument stone at the beginning of the line of trees with an inscription honoring Dr. Keith and Pat Miller for their years of service to Calvary.  This special touch was revealed to the Millers at their retirement party.

Learning and Living at Calvary During the Summer

Learning and Living at Calvary During the Summer

Weekly Portraits of Calvary Life

Summer Learning

Did you know that students can take Calvary classes year-round?  Because our academic year is structured into eight-week cycles, learning never has to stop – even in summer!  The fall semester technically starts in July and concludes when Cycle 3 finishes in December.  The spring semester starts with a one-week J-Term and includes Cycles 4-6.  We are currently in Cycle 1, and there are several classes meeting during the day and evening hours.

Dr. Dodds is teaching Evangelism/Spiritual Life.

Mr. Williamson is teaching Introduction to Philosophy.

Summer Living

This summer is the first time that Calvary has kept the dorms open in June and July.  While the number of students living there is much smaller than during Cycles 2-5, we do have students taking advantage of that opportunity.  Of course, many choose to go home for a few months, but they are still able to take summer classes using our blended online model.

Dr. Washington is teaching Strategic Management.
