Family Literacy Program
A service of the Education Department of Calvary University.
Our Mission is to encourage lifelong learning through teaching literacy strategies to children and their families.
Often when people hear the word “literacy,” they think of reading and language arts. However, literacy is much more than that. Literacy can be defined as competence or knowledge in a specified area, such as mathematics, science, or technology. A child who has literacy strategies knows not just what to think, but how to think. They are better equipped to handle the challenges presented to them throughout their lives.
What services do we offer?
We provide one-on-one and small-group tutoring, book clubs, family literacy workshops, and game nights for the whole family!
Who do we serve?
We are pleased to offer free tutoring services and literacy events in the greater Cass County area to families with children ages 4 – 14.
Who are we?
All tutors and volunteers are Education majors or Faculty members from Calvary University. Those working with students have received a clear background check.
