Overview

Calvary University’s Secondary Social Science program prepares Education majors to teach history, geography, government, civic dispositions, and civic skills to students in Grades 9 – 12. Successful completion of the Secondary Social Science program will position Education majors to be eligible to apply for Missouri State Teacher Certification and Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) certification. The program is designed to prepare Education majors to serve God as effective teachers in public, private, and international schools.

Program Goals

Secondary Social Science majors will be able to:

  • Compose a comprehensive biblical philosophy of education.
  • Demonstrate mastery of content knowledge aligned with their certification area.
  • Create lesson plans and unit plans that encourage their students’ critical thinking, problem-solving, and performance skills.
  • Participate in a variety of field experiences that promote the development and acquisition of pedagogical skills.
  • Articulate how various philosophies of individual and group motivation and behavior can be applied to create learning environments that encourage active engagement in learning, positive social interaction, and constructive self-management.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of effective formative and summative assessment strategies to evaluate their students’ academic progress.
  • Complete all the appropriate requirements and assessments throughout the degree program.
