Calvary is proud to support and honor our military members and their families’ commitment and sacrifice for our country through a collaborative effort involving the student and the Department of Defense. If you served on active duty, you might be eligible for education benefits offered by the Department of Veterans Affairs. If you are the spouse or child of a service member who is serving on active duty Title 10 orders in the paygrades of E1-E5, O1-O2, or W1-W2, you may be eligible for financial assistance from the Department of Defense. If you are the spouse or child of a service member, you may be eligible for transfer of the service member’s Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits to you.

The Post-9/11 GI Bill provides financial support for educational and housing expenses to individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service after September 10, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. You must have received an honorable discharge to be eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill.

Calvary directly invoices and receives payment from the VA each semester for the charges which are listed on the Student’s Billing Statement. Housing allowances are paid directly to the service member by the VA. To use your GI Bill benefits, you will need to provide the Financial Aid Office at Calvary your Certificate of Eligibility from the Department of Veterans Affairs. Service members and veterans should visit this link to access their VA benefits. Students with questions concerning their VA benefits, including how much their benefit is, should contact the VA. Service members eligible for VA Vocational Rehab benefits will need to provide the Financial Aid Office with their Authorization and Certification (VA Form 28-1905). The Authorization form will allow Calvary to directly invoice and receive payment for authorized charges on the student’s billing statement. The service member should contact their case manager with questions concerning their benefits and authorization.

If a student is currently serving in the military, they may be eligible for funding offered through the Department of Defense Tuition Assistance Program (TA).  Eligibility for TA is solely determined, authorized, and funded by the student’s branch of service.

Potential students should consider using Tuition Assistance (TA) Decide. It is a helpful comparison tool available to aid in making informed choices on schools and education programs.

Service members who wish to use TA, should request it through their military branch of service prior to enrolling and starting classes. Approval of TA requires a student to submit an Academic Planner for their program of study to the branch of service.  Students should contact their Academic Advisor to obtain a Program Planner.

Once a student’s request for TA has been authorized, the Financial Aid Office should be immediately notified. The Financial Aid Office will then directly invoice and receive payment from the student’s branch of service.

Military Tuition Assistance (TA) is awarded to a student under the assumption that the student will attend school for the entire period for which the assistance is awarded. When a student withdraws, the student may no longer be eligible for the full amount of TA funds originally awarded.

To comply with Department of Defense policy, Calvary University will return any unearned TA funds on a prorated basis through at least the 60% portion of the period for which the funds were provided. TA funds are earned proportionally during an enrollment period, with unearned funds returned based upon when a student stops attending. These funds are returned to the military service branch, according to the following schedule:

16-Week Course withdraw submitted:

• Before or during weeks 1-2, 100% return
• During weeks 3-4, 75% return
• During weeks 5-8, 50% return
• During week 9, 40% return (60% completion)
• During weeks 10-16, 0% return

8-Week Course withdraw submitted:

• Before or during week 1, 100% return
• During week 2, 75% return
• During weeks 3-4, 50% return
• During week 5, 40% return (60% completion)
• During weeks 6-8, 0% return

If a service member stops attending due to a military service obligation, Calvary will work with the affected service member to identify solutions that will not result in student debt for the returned portion.

Military members receiving and using military benefits, may also be eligible for Title IV Federal Student Aid, including grants and Direct Federal Student Loans. Terms and conditions of loans through the Direct Federal Student Loan program are typically more favorable, in terms of the interest charged and repayment plans, than private education loans. Calvary offers veterans undergraduate and graduate degrees with a biblical foundation. Every course taught at Calvary, from Bible to Business, is firmly grounded upon the Scriptures.

Many branches of the military are represented on our campus, both in the classroom and in faculty and staff positions. Seminary students have the opportunity to earn a Master of Divinity degree and enter the military as a Chaplain. Contact Admissions for more information. A Calvary degree is a natural fit for individuals motivated by a desire to serve the church and the world from a biblical perspective. Class sizes are small, and open sharing is encouraged. Students are intellectually challenged to achieve their highest potential in their career path.

Calvary also participates in ROTC and accepts college credits earned while serving in the military. Evaluation of military transfer credits is offered at no charge by contacting the appropriate department.
