Faculty Profile:

Dr. Victor (Skip) Hessel

Name: Dr. Victor E. (Skip) Hessel, Jr.

Title: Adjunct Faculty, Business Administration

Started at Calvary: January 2002

Professional Information: B.S. (Bible & Human Resource Management), Calvary Bible College, 1996; M.B.A. (Human Resource Management, Marketing Research, & Organizational Behavior), University of Missouri, Kansas City, 2001; D.M. (Organizational Leadership), University of Phoenix, 2014.

Eighteen years at Silgan Containers Corporation:  After beginning as a machinist, I served as a union steward and union negotiator.  Eventually, I was promoted to management and handled labor relations role for the company.  I finished my career at Silgan as the operations manager for the largest unit-producing department in the company. While serving as an adjunct for Calvary and two local colleges, I worked as a substance abuse counselor and as an associate pastor.  I also have some small business ventures including a small row-crop operation.

Favorite class to teach:  I love teaching Leadership classes.  God has gifted me in this area and I love to pass along my experience.  Almost every class I teach includes leadership principles.

Originally from:  Born in Los Angeles, I grew up in Holt, Missouri on a farm the oldest of four children.  Raising pigs and cattle was a valuable life experience.  Moving away from the farm I worked a five-year career in radio for a small all-talk station in Cameron.  After taking some business courses I decided to pursue a manufacturing career in Kansas City.  It was in the early years of this career that Jesus saved me.  His transformation of my life changed everything in the years to come.  I currently live near my childhood home in Holt.

How did past ministry/professional experience lead to your position at Calvary?  I graduated from Calvary Bible College in 1996 while I was working in management for Silgan Containers.  My college experience led me to pursue additional education so I could come back and teach at Calvary.  My experiences at Calvary made me realize I was gifted to teach and specifically called to this Kingdom work.  My education was only for the purpose of teaching at Calvary.

Ministry/Professional involvement outside of Calvary: I am a bi-vocational pastor. Currently, I am Associate Pastor at Lawson Bible Church. Additionally, I am a certified biblical counselor with the International Association of Biblical Counselors (IABC). I speak to church groups, pastor groups, and counseling groups about family and church counseling issues. I counsel pastors and consult for churches and nonprofit organizations on a variety of leadership and management issues.
