Sitting on the curb wondering where to go or what to do next, she’s cold, hungry, scared and lost. Those walking by seem to keep their eyes focused on the path and their goal – to not be interrupted – whatever is waiting for them, it’s more important. But she just needs a hand, a word of encouragement, some direction – could anyone help her begin to get on her feet again? Will anyone be her good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37)?
For more than 90 years, Calvary’s focus on the biblical worldview has prepared servants and leaders who reflect God’s character to a lost world.  And while God has always used His people, the church, to practically show His heart, expressions of His love have varied through the years.
Today, it may be a warm cup of coffee with a group of caring people after a rough night, a safe place to finally breathe and talk with someone who can help, a generous gift or grocery delivery just on time, so dinner will be from abundance rather than scarcity tonight, or  a message of hope during a dark trial.
From the pastor in his ministry role, to a successful professional caring for his or her employees, or a stay-at-home parent caring for young children, in order to make an eternal impact, they all must be prepared to live and serve in the church and the world according to the biblical worldview.
That is our mission at Calvary – to train men and women for this life of service.
As they study ethics and strategies, Calvary business students are also learning the richness of generosity of which Paul speaks (Phil. 4:17) and the value of skill and prudence (Prov. 22:29). While music students learn pedagogy and artistic mastery, they also learn to worship the same creator David and the writers of the Psalms did with their voices and instruments (Psalm 150:1-6). While teachers learn skills for training, they are also trained to see with eyes like Jesus’, full of compassion and empathy for their students and mirroring the expression of care we see in the good Samaritan (Luke 10:27).
An education from the biblical worldview is absolutely, unarguably imperative today. And though it is invaluable, this level of professional training comes at a price. Similar to most institutions, at Calvary, the majority of our students receive financial aid, but unlike most institutions, more than half our students graduate with no debt at all due to the generosity of people like you.
This means they are not burdened as they study, and after graduation they are not hindered by expensive repayment plans which provide them the freedom to truly serve, minister to, and impact lost souls wherever the Lord directs them.
And Calvary students and alumni today are having an eternal impact for Christ.
In the coming weeks, you will have an opportunity to see and hear real stories of alumni, Dan and Tim. You’ll also hear from Emily, a current student with a passion for teaching making an impact through education. They are each serving, fulfilling the mission, and living now as an extension of those men and women who invested in them through financial scholarships to attend CU.
The scholarship fund at Calvary provides students the opportunity to be trained and prepared for what God has for them. Generous friends of Calvary have already given more than $60,000 this year end toward enhancing the student experience at CU, and they have challenged YOU to make an eternal impact alongside them by matching their gifts with a financial investment in the scholarship fund!
As we enter this season of generosity, would you consider investing in Calvary students by giving a financial gift to our scholarship fund? More than ever the realities of our society and world point to a need to train leaders with professional skills from the biblical worldview.
Who will open the coffee shop to serve those who slept on the street last night?
Who will provide safe counsel and a compassionate heart for the scared child?
Who will extend practical generosity to a family in need?
Who will preach the message of hope to a hopeless world?
Calvary students – they have, and they will continue to make an eternal difference.
We can’t wait to share some amazing stories with you, and pray you’ll consider investing in the lives of CU students today, and all those they serve in the future.
