Overview

Calvary University’s Middle School Speech & Theater program prepares Education majors to teach young adolescents in Grades 5 – 9 to conceptualize, organize, develop, rehearse, perform, and respond to artistic works. Successful completion of the Middle School Speech & Theatre program will position Education majors to be eligible to apply for Missouri State Teacher Certification and Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) certification. The program is designed to prepare Education majors to serve God as effective teachers in public, private, and international schools.

Program Learning Outcomes

Middle School Speech & Theatre majors will be able to:

  • Compose a Biblical Philosophy of Education.
  • Demonstrate mastery of content knowledge aligned with their certification area.
  • Create lesson plans and unit plans that implement curriculum development strategies and instructional approaches utilizing a variety of resources to encourage students’ critical thinking, problem-solving, and performance skills while considering differentiated strategies to support all learners.
  • Demonstrate effective pedagogical skills.
  • Articulate how various philosophies of individual and group motivation and behavior can be applied to create learning environments that encourage active engagement in learning, positive social interaction and constructive self-management.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of effective formative and summative assessment strategies to evaluate learners’ academic progress.
  • Complete all the appropriate requirements and assessments throughout the degree program.

The Educational Studies degree programs are designed for individuals who desire to be prepared to teach others but may not desire to teach in a traditional school setting. Since the Educational Studies degree programs are non-certification programs, they do not include Student Teaching as a requirement for graduation.
