Calvary Hosts Cass County Coalition of Chambers

Weekly Portraits of Calvary Life

On Thursday, Calvary hosted a luncheon meeting of the Cass County Coalition of Chambers.  It was held in our Student Life Center (new dining hall), and we received many compliments on the facility.  Our own Joe Dapra prepared the delicious meal, and Dr. Cone was the main speaker at the event.  He shared “Seven Tools to Enhance Your Industry” which included engagement opportunities between Calvary and our surrounding communities.  75 people attended the meeting representing businesses in Belton, Raymore, Peculiar, Pleasant Hill, Harrisonville, and other parts of Cass County.

Dr. Cone spoke at the CCCC luncheon.

New Dining Hall is a Dream Come True!

New Dining Hall is a Dream Come True!

Weekly Portraits of Calvary Life

Calvary has dreamed of a new dining hall for years now.  On Monday, January 8, 2018, those dreams came to fruition!

Building Acquired

On September 8, 2016, Calvary acquired the building which was formerly Turner’s German-American Hall.  It is located just south of Calvary’s softball field near Eagle’s Landing Golf Course.  The main goal was to remodel the space and move the dining hall to this new location.

Joe’s Kitchen Opens for Business

While there are still a few tasks to accomplish before the remodeling project can be called “complete,” we were able to pass inspections and receive permission to begin serving meals when the students returned to campus for the new semester.  On Wednesday, we had Chapel in the new dining hall and took time to praise and thank God for this building.  Randy Grimm announced that the kitchen will be named “Joe’s Kitchen” in honor of Joe Dapra, who is faithfully serving as Director of Food Services for the twentieth school year.  We look forward to many more chocolate chip cookies, eggs made to order, and Taco Tuesdays in this new facility!

We took time to praise and thank God for this building during Chapel on Wednesday.

Randy Grimm presented Joe Dapra, our Director of Food Services, with a mock-up of the sign that will designate “Joe’s Kitchen.”

Serving area

Since the equipment for the serving line has not arrived yet, students served themselves on Wednesday.

You Can Help

Besides the modern kitchen and spacious eating area, we are also excited about the potential for hosting special events in this building.  This year’s Alumni Phone-a-thon will fund the purchase of a sound system, multimedia screen, and projector to be used at these events.  If you are interested in contributing to this project, click here.

Preparations for a New School Year

Preparations for a New School Year

Weekly Portraits of Calvary Life

With new students arriving in less than one week, another school year seems to be hurtling toward us!  That is why our faculty and staff spent Thursday in meetings focused on preparations for the upcoming semester.  Dr. Cone encouraged us from God’s Word, and the other members of the Cabinet gave reports from their respective departments.

One bit of news that I would like to pass on to you is about our enrollment numbers.  We are praising the Lord that more than 315 students are currently registered for classes in Cycle 2*!  Thank you for your prayers in that area.                *Calvary’s academic year is now structured into 8-week cycles.  Cycle 2 is August 28-October 20.

We are also excited about the progress being made on renovating the former seminary building into the new home of the Hilda Kroeker Library and Clark Academic Center.  In addition to that project, we anticipate that work will soon begin on transforming the Student Life Center (formerly Turner’s German-American Hall which we purchased last fall) into our new dining hall.  Please pray with us for safety, quality work, and timely completion.

Dr. Cone spoke to the faculty and staff on Thursday.

Calvary Hosts Belton Chamber of Commerce Luncheon

Calvary Hosts Belton Chamber of Commerce Luncheon

Weekly Portraits of Calvary Life

On Tuesday Calvary hosted the Belton Chamber of Commerce for a luncheon in our Student Life Center.  Our own Joe Dapra prepared the food, and Dr. Skip Hessel, our Chief Development Officer, gave a presentation on intergenerational management.  He shared behavior characteristics of the different age groups and the most common issues in managing multiple generations within the workforce.  Events like this one are a fantastic way to build relationships and promote Calvary.  It is our pleasure to be a part of this community and to serve local businesses in this way.

Fall Work Day

slc-work-day

Students work to beautify the area around the new Student Life Center.

Now that the students are settling into college life, it is nice to take a day off from brain work to do some manual labor.  On Tuesday students were assigned to various jobs around campus, with a majority of the work being done inside and outside the new Student Life Center.  If you have not heard about Calvary’s new acquisition, click here to read more about it.  The building was formerly Turner’s German-American Hall, and it is just south of Calvary’s softball field near Eagle’s Landing Golf Course.  If you would like a sneak peek at the space before it is renovated, make reservations to attend the President’s Dinner next week.
