Last Friday evening Calvary’s Music Department presented a concert entitled The Sounds of Christmas. We heard several selections from the Chorale as well as a few soloists. Students Cherrish Palmer, Jonathan Van Pelt, Christopher Stolberg, and Bethany Franklin played instrumental pieces, and six students performed as part of the orchestra. The Men’s Chorale is comprised of staff, faculty, and students, and they sang a couple numbers. Scripture readings were interspersed throughout the program, and the event ended with some congregational Christmas carols. All in all, it was a nice way to start the month of December – focusing on the true “reason for the season.”
Last Friday evening the Calvary Masterworks Chorus performed Elijah by Felix Mendelssohn. A large crowd of family and friends filled Blue River Bible Church to enjoy the fruit of many weeks of practice by the vocalists and instrumentalists. The chorus was comprised of Calvary students, faculty, staff, alumni, and singers from the local, Christian community. The oratorio featured 47 movements following Elijah’s story in I Kings and incorporating other scriptures as well. We were pleased to have Joshua Lawlor, David Adams, Un Chong Christopher, and Jacqueline Venable Simmons as soloists for the performance. Jeremy Schell, our Chorale Director, was the director and conductor of the chorus and orchestra.
