Calvary University Introduces “lux voces”

Calvary University introduces their new traveling music group lux voces.  The group consists of Calvary students and alumni.

This new group is made up of young, talented musicians, praising God through their music using vocals, guitars, drums and piano in their performances.  Our goal is to serve Christian schools and churches by sharing the good news of Jesus Christ through music and testimonies.

The group will be available for Sunday morning church services and Christian school chapels as a way to introduce or familiarize Calvary University to families around the metro area with an interest in a local university.

The group debuted at the President’s Dinner in September to a great response.  Would you like to have lux voces visit your church or school?  They are now scheduling for the 2018-2019 season.  The group has their own equipment, sound technician, and sponsors for each performance.

Join Calvary University in India May 19-June 1, 2019!

Calvary University has a long standing tradition of hosting and training students from India. Only a few short years ago one of those students lead several summer ministry teams to his home country. Now another one of our students is opening the door for a more long-term relationship between Calvary and India.

India is home to 1.4 billion people, only 2.2% of which have a knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Most believers live in the densely packed urban areas leaving many villages with little to no witness of who Jesus is.  Local pastors work hard to reach these surrounding villages.  However, they face a mountainous task in reaching everyone. Of 2,554 people groups, 2,290 (89.7%) remain unreached with the gospel (Joshua Project)  Many of these groups still do not have the Word of God in their own languages.

India is a location rich with history and deeply entrenched in the History of Missions as many of the early pioneers of the Modern Missions Movement, folks like William Carey, Adoniram Judson and others set out to reach this richly diverse area with the gospel. However, India remains a place of great need, especially in the poorer village areas.  Hinduism is the dominant religion and recently the government has become increasingly hostile to Christian activities.

Next Summer the Burnham Center for Global Engagement is offering a two week mission trip to India. Faculty, staff, students and friends are welcome to join us for two weeks of ministry. We will be focusing on supporting the work of indigenous pastors through training and children’s activities. We will also be working on a project to complete construction on a local church. This project will require $3000.00 for the material costs.

For more information about joining us in India or helping with the construction project contact Joshua Paxton, Director of the Burnham Center for Global Engagement.

Calvary University hosts Grace University Chorale

Calvary University hosts Grace University Chorale

Calvary University will host the Grace University Chorale at their chapel service on Wednesday, March 28, 2018.  We are excited to welcome the GU Chorale for their final tour before Grace University closes after their Commencement ceremony in May.

The Grace Chorale and Chamber Singers from Grace University in Omaha, Nebraska, will sing in chapel at Calvary University, Kansas City, MO, on Wednesday, March 28, at 11:00 AM.  The Chorale, a long-standing tradition at Grace, is a 33 member auditioned choir under the direction of Dr. Greg Zielke.  The Chamber Singers are a select group of musicians from within the Chorale.  These groups strive for choral excellence and ministry through music while exploring the vast scope of sacred choral literature.

Calvary invites you to join us at this chapel service to experience the wonderful music from Grace University!

President’s Update: What is an Innovation Center???

President’s Update: What is an Innovation Center???

By now I hope you have all heard of our recent announcement that God has blessed us with an incredible 7.5-acre property with a beautiful 130,000 square foot building in Fort Morgan, Colorado. We also announced that we would be launching the Calvary University Innovation Center as a second location there. Quite a few have asked what exactly this Innovation Center is.

Excellent question. I am glad you asked. While God has been very gracious in allowing us the wonderful property at our main campus in Kansas City, Missouri, we don’t quite have the room there to do some of the things we believe necessary for Calvary University to best fulfill its mission. So we have been on the lookout during these past couple of years for properties that might fit our needs for a second site to complement what we are doing in Kansas City and online. Our new Innovation Center offers just what we need.

First, the Innovation Center will be a hub for student and faculty engagement in the Western United States. Calvary U currently offers more than 60 different degrees at our main campus, and many of those are available fully online as well. But along with our blended model which integrates the best of both the online and on campus worlds, we still want our students in other regions to be able to have an on-campus community. The Innovation Center allows us to do that in a ministry-rich area around Denver, Colorado. We plan to offer degrees onsite there in Bible and Theology, Christian ministries, Biblical counseling, intercultural studies, and business and organizational development, with classes launching late this Summer.

Second, the Innovation Center will be a center for community engagement. The athletic center seats nearly 1700 and the auditorium seats nearly 900. These are incredible facilities that will allow the Calvary University Innovation Center to be home to conferences, community groups, and more. We are working as we speak to develop relationships and partnerships with those who might be a great fit for collaboration. The facilities allow us to serve the residents of Fort Morgan and beyond. Further, we will have plenty of space to house ministries and businesses who want to locate their offices at the Innovation Center. This will provide great opportunities to connect community leaders with our students, allowing our students to learn and serve the community well. Have a ministry or business in the Denver area, and interested in being part of Calvary’s Innovation Center? Let’s talk! There may be a home for you at the Innovation Center.

Third, the Innovation Center will be a place of outreach to a beautifully diverse population. The area northeast of Denver is surprisingly diverse, with a few major companies operating factories and plants there. It is a growing area, and judging by the housing market in that area, the economy there seems about ready to explode (in a good way).

Speaking of housing – that will be one of our greatest challenges: to provide housing opportunities for students. While the opportunity is significant, so is the cost. We ask that you consider how you might prayerfully support our efforts there in providing opportunities for our students. If you can help in any way let us know!

Finally, the Innovation Center will give us opportunities to launch innovative mission-supporting programs, complementing and aiding our efforts in Kansas City. We expect that the Innovation Center will help us grow and sustain the quality we need in order to best serve our students in both of our locations.  We are excited about this second location for Calvary University, and we ask you to keep us in prayer as we strive to be excellent stewards with this unique opportunity. And if you have a pair of gloves or a few expendable dollars, come on! We could use your help…

Bethany Franklin Master Recital

Bethany Franklin Master Recital

Calvary University Graduate Student, Bethany Franklin, invites you to attend her Master Recital on Sunday, December 17, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. at Calvary University’s Liberty Chapel, 15790 Elmwood Ave, Kansas City, MO 64147.  This is a FREE recital.
Bethany Franklin is a Graduate Student at Calvary pursuing her Master’s of Music degree. She graduated from Calvary University with a degree in Advanced Biblical Studies in 2015. Prior to attending Calvary, she graduated from Cornerstone Bible Institute in 2013 with a diploma in Bible and Theology and an emphasis in Counseling.  She has been playing piano for nineteen years and currently, Bethany is employed by the Liberty Public School System and is accompanying choirs of middle school singers!  She also accompanies for the William Baker Festival Singers, a local Kansas City Choir.
Each Graduate Student needs to perform a final recital as part of their degree requirements; however, even though it is required, it is one of the more fun things Music Graduates get to do for their degree process.  Come hear Bethany as she plays various selections of classical music.  Mezzo-soprano Un Chong Christopher will be joining her later in the recital to perform German, French, and English art songs. These selections will delight and entertain you, as well as, give insight to the hard work and talent of the music program here at Calvary University.
