Job Description

The Student and Family Discipleship Pastor of Maplewood Church will provide spiritual and administrative leadership to students and parents in direct support of the mission, vision, and core values of Maplewood Church. He is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving strategies and tactics for effective student and family ministries. This includes recruiting and developing effective adult leaders, teaching our students, and leading them in service, evangelism, and discipleship. The pastor will lead the discipleship of families to raise their children to believe in Jesus and live out that faith as a disciple. The goal is to equip parents to make disciples in their home and in their communities. The pastor will agree with the doctrine of Maplewood Church.

Reports to:  Lead Pastor and Elder Board

Student Ministry Responsibilities

●       Develop, deploy, evaluate, and adjust plans and goals at least quarterly to improve the effectiveness of student ministries

●       Recruit, train, and direct leaders and volunteers in the student ministry

●      Facilitate and delegate the teaching, discipling, and counseling of students for their personal spiritual development. Guide them in evangelism and help them to be outreach oriented

Family Ministry Responsibilities

●       Organize men’s/family ministries for parents of Maplewood Church

●       Facilitate mentoring of men to be spiritual leaders in the home

●      Maintain a team approach with parents in spiritual development

General Responsibilities

●       Participate in leadership and direction of special mission programs, outreach activities, and social events for student/family ministries

●       Prepare the annual budget for needs of the student/family ministry and administer the approved budget according to policy, submitting reports to the Lead Pastor and Board of Elders as necessary

●       Attend weekly staff meetings and monthly meetings with the elders

●       Prepare and present quarterly reports of the student/family ministry for the congregational meetings

●       Assist the Lead Pastor as assigned with preaching, discipleship, outreach, leadership, and equipping the church

●       Participate in ministry conferences/trainings as available

●       Participate in annual performance evaluation with the Lead Pastor with a written summary submitted to the board of elders by the end of the year

Education and Experience Requirements

●       Experience leading or serving in student ministry/family discipleship

●       Some formal training in ministry. Bachelor’s degree in Christian ministry (Pastoral, Student, Family, or Bible) is preferable

●       Must be an example of good Christian character as described in 1 Timothy and Titus

●       Willingness to submit to the church constitution and Elder Board, teachable and humble

●       Ability to consistently teach the Bible with accuracy and application

●       A passion to reach out into the community with the gospel

●       A team player and teachable

●       Embrace change and innovation, a self-starter

●       Relate well to people of all ages, show compassion to those with diverse needs

●       Good at resolving conflicts and solving problems

●       Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and competing demands for your time

●       Capable with or willing to learn Planning Center, ProPresenter, social media, and other forms of technology

●       Ability to empower the students/families to use their spiritual gifts in serving others
