Job Summary:
To minister to community participants and guests by providing assistance with material needs and supporting spiritual, family, and living stabilization through case management, resources, and community discipleship programming.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:
·         Function as a positive contributing staff member of City Union Mission by engaging in

timely communication, active participation in departmental and other assigned meetings, strategic planning, data management, supplying accurate reports, and problem solving to ensure unity with the purpose and goals of the Mission.

 

·         Income-qualify clients to receive resources from Community Assistance (e.g. food, clothing, housewares, furniture, baby supplies, Blessing Zone, etc.) and maintain documentation on each client.  Special attention should be given to Blessing Zone and Happy Bottoms management and execution.  Understand and be available to assist in all aspects of Community Assistance.

 

·         Assist in the execution of seasonal ministry services, including ordering inventory, budget management, warehouse coordination, strategic planning & evaluation, and the tracking of statistics for the department (e.g., uniforms, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.)

 

·         Work with the New Life Program, Community New Life Program participants, and other volunteers as they come to assist with the work in the Community Assistance Department

 

·         Actively participate with the Ladies Bible Study, including helping with special and seasonal events, planning, relationship building, and communication.

 

·         Assist the Community Assistance Administrator with special projects as requested.

 

·         Seek to exemplify Jesus Christ daily and to be prepared to share the Gospel as opportunities arise.

 

·         Perform other duties as required.

 

City Union Mission Requirements:
·         Be a born again, mature Christian able to clearly communicate the Gospel as opportunities arise during the workday. (1 Peter 2:21, 3:15)

·         Have a desire to serve the Lord through widely varied responsibilities to advance ministry to those currently homeless, and the urban poor of Kansas City, with a compassionate heart.

·         Agree to City Union Mission’s Statement of Ministry:

o    Be a genuine believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, as expressed by personal testimony and conduct.

o    Be a member in good standing of a recognized protestant, evangelical church for one year or more.

o    Have a genuine concern for the ministry of City Union Mission.

o    Have a minimum of one year of sobriety from alcohol and drugs and six months from tobacco.

o    Agree to abstain from alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, and tobacco while employed by City Union Mission.

o    Have a lifestyle that is free of sexual sin as clearly defined in the Bible.

Required Skills/Abilities:
·         Able to lead others in spiritual maturity and demonstrate the attributes of a Christian role

model with clients, staff, and the community at large (1Timothy 4:12; Joshua 24:15).

·         Demonstrate a background of neatness, accuracy, and dependability with a high level of

personal integrity.

·         Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, and computer literacy in

Google and Microsoft applications. Required: Bachelor’s degree in social services or a related field, or an Associate’s degree and 3 years of related experience.

 

Education and Experience:
·         Associates degree in social services or a related field and at least 3 years of related experience required.

·         Bachelor’s degree in social services or a related field highly preferred.

·         Bi-lingual Spanish or other language highly preferred.

Physical Requirements:
·         Prolonged periods of sitting/standing/kneeling, etc.

·         Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.

·         Must be able to operate motor vehicle, such as 15-passenger van.

Travel Requirements:
Ability to drive to our campuses in Kansas City and in Warsaw
