Warehouse Associate

Job Summary:

This position will receive, sort, store and record donations and Mission supplies and equipment in warehouses.  This position will work closely with donors and other Mission staff on a daily basis.

Duties/Responsibilities:

·        Have a desire to serve the Lord through widely varied responsibilities to advance ministry to those currently homeless and the urban poor of Kansas City with a compassionate heart.

·        Receiving, recording, sorting, storing and distributing purchased and donated foods, housekeeping, and personal care supplies using a continual computerized inventory system.

·        Ensuring accurate inventory of donated food, housekeeping, and personal care supplies using computerized inventory system.

·        Filling orders for the kitchens and all departments requesting food, housekeeping, and personal care supplies.

·        Helping maintain Health Department standards and other government agencies’ standards in storage of food and building sanitation.

·        Answer the door and phone.

·        Receive, record and sort all purchased and donated foods, housekeeping, personal care and other items.

·        Work at both warehouses as workload demands.

·        Supervise and lead volunteers.

·        Maintain inventory and rotation stock for freshness.

·        Be responsible to see that the coolers/freezers are in working order and report any problems to the Food Service/Transportation Director and the Facilities Director.

·        Transport/deliver food orders to CUM departments as needed.

·        Develop a cleaning schedule that maintains health department sanitation requirements.

·        Work holidays or weekends if deemed necessary by Warehouse Administrator and/or COO.

·        Work independently with little supervision and perform other duties as assigned.

·        Perform other duties as requested.

·        Agree to City Union Mission’s Statement of Ministry:

o    Be a genuine believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, as expressed by personal testimony and conduct.

o    Be a member in good standing of a recognized protestant, evangelical church for one year or more.

o    Have a genuine concern for the ministry of City Union Mission.

o    Have a minimum of one year of sobriety from alcohol and drugs and six months from tobacco.

o    Agree to abstain from alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, and tobacco while employed by City Union Mission.

o    Have a lifestyle that is free of sexual sin as clearly defined in the Bible.

Required Skills/Abilities:

·        Be able to pass a safety test and operate a forklift.

·        Be able to supervise and lead volunteer groups

·        Be OSHA ten certified or within 6 months of employment.

·        Be able to obtain a Food Manager license within 6 months

Education and Experience:

·        1 year experience is preferred.

·        High School Diploma or equivalent GED preferred.

·        Be Fluent in Microsoft Word, and Gmail,

Physical Requirements:

·        Prolonged periods of sitting/standing/kneeling, etc.

·        Occasionally exposed to extremes in temperature and outdoor elements of rain, wind and snow

·        Ability to ascend/descend stairs multiple times throughout the shift.

·         Must be able to lift 50lbs unassisted and must obtain assistance with equipment or co-worker for weights over 50lbs

·         Must be able to operate motor vehicle, such as 15-passenger van or box truck

Travel Requirements:

·         Ability to drive to our campuses in Kansas City and in Warsaw.
