Job Summary:
To oversee, provide and coordinate health/medical services for all clients of the City Union Mission that will bring comfort, promote healing, and increase their knowledge of methods to maintain health, prevent illness, and when it is necessary, to seek outside medical attention.

Duties/Responsibilities:
●        Function as a positive contributing staff member of City Union Mission by engaging in timely communication, active participation in meetings, strategic planning, data management, supplying accurate reports, and problem solving to ensure unity with the purpose and goals of the Mission.

●        Maintain and oversee all administrative duties within the Health Services Department.  Maintain Health Services hours, divided between Women’s and Family Services, Men’s Services, and Camp.

●        Provide education and assessment of client’s medical and psychiatric illnesses, medication regimen with independence in managing their own healthcare as the desired outcome.

●        Make decisions on placement of clients in the infirmary, based on nursing assessment and information provided by outside healthcare professionals.

●        Schedule, oversee and supervise Health Services staff and volunteers, completing any associated documentation.

●        Work with all programs – Men’s Services, Women and Family Services, and Camp – to promote better healthcare knowledge for program participants.

●        Maintain required record keeping for the department, such as Monthly Stats, Gift(s) in Kind, and any others needed.

●        Order and maintain all supplies and medications needed within each of the Mission’s programs.

●        Be available to consult on health and safety concerns, Mission wide.

●        Coordinate the medical side of Camp, including: recruiting medical volunteers, overseeing the medical portion of Saturday health screenings, participating in Monday camper send-offs, and troubleshooting any issues that arise with the Camp Nurse.

●        Be aware of the spiritual needs of the clients & respond, offering the comfort and hope that only God can give. Seek to exemplify Jesus Christ daily and be prepared to share the Gospel and disciple as opportunities arise.

●        Coordinate and oversee student nurses, providing preceptorship and collaborating with their college faculty.

●        Communicate with outside medical and psychiatric inpatient facilities, upholding the testimony of the Mission in these interactions. Review their referrals for acceptance to the Mission, assessing the appropriateness of potential guests.

●        Perform other duties as assigned.

City Union Mission Requirements:
●        Be a born again, mature Christian able to clearly communicate the Gospel as opportunities arise during the workday. (1 Peter 2:21, 3:15)

●        Have a desire to serve the Lord through widely varied responsibilities to advance ministry to those currently homeless, and the urban poor of Kansas City, with a compassionate heart.

●        Agree to City Union Mission’s Statement of Ministry:

o    Be a genuine believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, as expressed by personal testimony and conduct.

o    Be a member in good standing of a recognized protestant, evangelical church for one year or more.

o    Have a genuine concern for the ministry of City Union Mission.

o    Have a minimum of one year of sobriety from alcohol and drugs and six months from tobacco.

o    Agree to abstain from alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, and tobacco while employed by City Union Mission.

o    Have a lifestyle that is free of sexual sin as clearly defined in the Bible.

Required Skills/Abilities:
●        Must have the spiritual maturity and ability to interact with various types of people and have a sound understanding of mental health, disabilities and/or age-related challenges.

Education and Experience:
●        Current certification in BLS for Healthcare Workers is required.

●        Current RN license with minimum BSN education level is required.

●        Preferred background in psychiatric/behavioral health or home health case management/community nursing.

Physical Requirements:
●        Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

●        Ability to assist guests to exit in times of emergency evacuation.

Travel Requirements:
·        Ability to drive to our campuses in Kansas City and in Warsaw.
