Worship Arts & Youth Ministry
Purpose
To equip godly men and women for vocational music and youth ministry that includes traditional and contemporary music.
Entrance into the Worship Arts & Youth Ministry Major
To enter the Worship Arts and Youth Ministry major, the student is required to pass an audition in the chosen applied area. Audition appointments should be made with the Music Department chairperson prior to registration for the student's first semester. If the student is unable to audition on-site, the student may present a tape or CD for his audition. The student should present at least two pieces of contrasting style, classical or sacred, for his audition.
Objectives
- That the student develops in his life the Christian character and qualifications necessary for a music and youth ministry that glorifies God.
- That the student acquires competency in musicianship, leadership, conducting, and teaching and discipling youth.
- That the student develops a personal philosophy of ministry based on biblical principles that will become the basis for him working with music and youth.
Special Requirements
All Worship Arts and Youth Ministry majors are required to participate in MUMC Calvary Masterworks Chorus which performs a major sacred classical work at least every other year. They are also required to take MUGR General Recital each semester they take private lessons at Calvary.
