Swimming Lessons

Calvary Bible College in Kansas City, MO offers swimming lessons at the Calvary Pool, for children ages 6-14. Classes are 30 minutes in length and run Monday - Thursday (July 15-18 and 22-25) for two weeks. Fridays will be used as make-up days.  Cost is $40.

When deciding what class to enroll your child, we suggest starting with the last level your child completed. It is much easier to move a student to a higher level class than to move him/her to a lower level class.

Each class level is limited to six students, so register right away!

Beginner (9:00 a.m. or 9:45 a.m.):

By the end of the class, your child should be able to complete the following:

Floating and gliding:

  • Prone glide unsupported

  • Back float unsupported

  • Back glide unsupported

  • Rolling from front to back

  • Rolling from back to front

Introduction to rhythmic breathing:

  • 10 bobs in waist-deep water
  • Rhythmic breathing using side of wall
  • Rhythmic breathing using the kick board

Locomotion:

  • Flutter kick on front 10 yards without support
  • Front crawl 10 yards
  • Flutter kick on back 10 yards without support
  • Back crawl 10 yards

Introduction to deep water:

  • Jump into 4-5 feet of water without support
  • Jump into deep water with support

Personal safety and rescue:

  • Knowledge of pool rules
  • Tread water for 30 seconds

Advanced Beginner (10:45 a.m.):

By the end of the class, your child should be able to complete the following:

Water entry and exit:

  • 15 bobs in chest-deep water
  • Jump into deep water, recover and swim to wall

Underwater exploration:

  • Retrieve objects with eyes open
  • Underwater swimming 5 yards

Locomotion:

  • Front crawl 15 yards breathing to the front or side
  • Changing directions while swimming on front
  • Back crawl 15 yards
  • Elementary backstroke legs supported
  • Elementary backstroke arms supported
  • Elementary backstroke 10 yards

Diving:

  • Safe diving rules
  • Kneeling dive

Personal safety and rescue:

  • Knowledge of pool rules
  • Tread water for 1 minute

Intermediate (11:30 a.m.):

By the end of the class, your child should be able to complete the following:

Water entry and exit:

  • 15 bobs in deep water

Underwater exploration:

  • Underwater swimming 10 yards in deep water

Locomotion:

  • Front crawl 25 yards with rhythmic breathing
  • Back crawl 25 yards
  • Elementary backstroke 20 yards
  • Breaststroke arms
  • Breaststroke kick with support
  • Breaststroke 10 yards

Turns:

  • Front crawl open turn
  • Back crawl open turn

Diving:

  • Safe diving rules
  • Standing dive from side of pool

Personal safety and rescue:

  • Tread water for 2 minutes
